For this instalment of SPOTLIGHT, an occasional program for exceptional projects, we are thrilled to present a survey of three decades of work by Berlin based artist Michael Sayles. This mini-Intraspective exhibition looks deeply into various threads of practice the artist has investigated throughout his career. In technically sophisticated graphite renderings, assemblages, photography and paintings we encounter a world of AFROPEAN experience, one in which the fetish appears in various forms that both celebrates its ritual origins, embraces the psychological dimensions and cleverly toys with its role in modernist economies.
